Plexus mechanical engineering offers a significant portfolio of market successful product designs created specifically for our customers including simple enclosure design, complex instruments, and electro-mechanical systems. With an experienced staff acress a variety of industries, our mechanical engineers can efficiently assist with short-term bandwidth limitations or fill technology gaps (e.g., complex thermal analysis, stress modeling, etc.) as well as compliment your team to collaboratively implement complex turn-key designs.

To support these capabilities, Plexus retains a variety of - state of the art modeling and analysis tools - including:
  • Parametric Solid Modeling – Pro/ENGINEER and SolidWorks create complex mechanical models and assemblies. These tools enable the creation of virtual designs in 3D space to minimize time to market

  • Mechanism Design – Enables the simulation of complex electro-mechanical systems using Pro/Mechanism Design software.

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) – Supports analysis of stress and fatigue in designs using software tools such as Pro/Mechanica and ANSYS.

  • ECAD – Defines PCB board attributes such as outlines, mounting hole locations, component height restrictions, and keep-out/in areas. This information is shared with PCB designers using a common database via the Plexus ECAD design transfer process.

  • Computations Fluid Dynamics (CFD) – Fluent's Icepak software simulates airflow and temperatures of an enclosure to ensure all thermal requirements are met before proceeding into detailed design.

  • Mold Flow Analysis – By simulating the plastic filling process for injection-molded parts, Pro/ENGINEER Plastic Advisor directly improves design for manufacturability, by uncovering potential problems and proposing remedies early in the design process, before committing expensive tooling dollars.

  • CNC Machining and Model Making – Most of our US-based sites have dedicated 3D labs equipped with all of the tools necessary to create anything from foam mock-ups to full-size marketing and human factors models.
