World Engineering Day: Engineering with Purpose at Plexus

On World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, we’re proud to highlight the Plexus engineers who design transformative products that improve—and in some instances, save—lives.

From medical devices to industrial equipment, one of our strengths lies in our global design centers. Strategically located near our manufacturing sites, these centers ensure a seamless transition from the drawing board to the production floor. This proximity, combined with our global reach, allows our teams to operate as a unified force, sharing advanced tools from virtual prototyping to Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled design to bring quality products to market with speed and reliability.

To honor this day, we are highlighting three of our engineers who embody our vision of building a better world.

Guadalajara Design Center in Mexico

For Miguel Morales Verduzco, a Mechanical Engineer II at our Guadalajara Design Center (GDC), engineering has always been about enabling movement. Growing up he was captivated by how theoretical physics could be harnessed to create something tangible.

Today, Miguel oversees the development of robust mechanical solutions for the Healthcare/Life Sciences market sector. His “why” became clear during a conversation with his father, a practicing physician.

“I was incredibly inspired to learn that the life-impacting devices my father uses to treat patients every day are actually Plexus customer products,” Miguel shares. “Knowing that my designs evolve into real-world applications that help him save lives is how I know I’m helping to build a better world.”

Miguel’s journey is supported by Plexus’ commitment to our value of Growing Our People. As a current participant in the TechnPenang Design Center in Malaysiaical Leadership Development Program, he feels empowered to apply advanced design methodologies to create high-quality solutions, ensuring that every innovation coming out of GDC is built sustainably and with the end-user in mind.

Livingston Design Center in the United Kingdom

At our Livingston Design Center (LDC), Staff Mechanical Engineer Mac MacArthur has defined her career through creative problem-solving. Mac leads a global mechanical team developing novel surgical devices to advance stroke care.

While Mac thrives on the technical challenges in her product development role, she believes her success is rooted in living our value of Building Belonging.

“Building collaborative relationships when you’ve never met in person can be difficult,” Mac notes regarding her work across global time zones. “I spend a lot of time creating space for team members to voice their opinions and perspectives and giving them the intentional consideration they deserve.”

Supported by Plexus’ commitment to professional development, Mac is currently leading a strategic initiative to boost mechanical engineering productivity across our global sites. By reducing repetitive tasks, she empowers her fellow engineers to focus on what matters most: delivering the exceptional quality and perfect delivery that our customers and their end-users rely on in the moments that matter most.

Penang Design Center in Malaysia

At our Penang Design Center (PDC), Senior Mechanical Engineer Way-Ping Heng uses his lifelong curiosity for science to solve complex problems for our Semiconductor Capital Equipment customers. His current work on product life cycle extension for a customer’s lithography equipment is the perfect intersection of passion and purpose.

By prioritizing environmental stewardship and the circular economy, Way-Ping is helping ensure the production of essential integrated circuits remains sustainable.

Way-Ping reflected on how our Building Belonging value resonates deeply with him. “PDC embodies a ‘we’ culture. Everything we do, we do together. This is demonstrated in our everyday tasks, where we willingly support each other to solve problems, regardless of which engineering discipline is leading it.”

Way-Ping’s journey in Penang also reflects the Plexus culture of asking, “What do you aspire to be and do?” Through technical training and knowledge-sharing, he and his colleagues are equipped to reach their full potential while creating the products that build a better world.
